Alston Ices
Over 24 years ago, Raymond Miller bought an 1985 Bedford ice-cream van from his brother-in-law and began selling in the car park of an Alston hotel on a May Bank Holiday.
A coal man and a miner by trade, Ray decided that he would try keeping locals cool in the warmer months as well as warm in the winter. His idea was a success because on a hot summer's day, what better sight and sound is there, than a traditional ice-cream van?
Now 36 years young, the van has just been given a new lease of life with a fresh coat of pink and white paint. As well as local shows and galas, Alston Ices is available to hire for weddings, birthday parties, school treats and more. Contact Ray for more details.
In fact Alston Ices could probably claim to be the “highest ice-cream van in England,” as Ray can be found regularly selling on top of Hartside Pass, alongside Hartside Cafe, which is over 1900 feet above sea level.
Look out for us up Hartside, at shows or in Alston.
